Sheila Elz

Master Data Manager at Bayer

Sheila Elz grew up in Michigan, USA, and now lives in Germany. After a career as concert pianist, she
acquired a BSc in Nutritional Science and a MSc in Toxicology, specializing in biochemistry and statistical
analysis.
Sheila’s primary focus in her current job as Master Data Manager at Bayer AG Pharmaceutical R&D is on
cross-functional and global master and reference data management. Additionally, she is co-leading
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) teams of experts in the drafting of the Systematic
Review of ISO 11615 and guidance on IDMP Ontology for the ISO Identification of Medicinal Products
(IDMP) standards.
Complementary to her work on the ISO IDMP standards, Sheila initiated and is co-leading the Pistoia
Alliance IDMP Ontology project. The IDMP Ontology aims to provide a stable underlying data
infrastructure and data governance in an open-source, pre-competitive implementation of globally
harmonized IDMP standards. The ontology is developed in a collaborative multi-party consortium
including 11 pharma companies as well as technology providers, and in alignment with multiple
stakeholders.
